What is the Prostate Gland
The Prostate Gland is located approximately halfway between the anus and scrotum, and is wrapped the urethra where urine and semen is discharged though.
The main purpose of the prostate gland is the creating of the seminal fluid that is mixed with sperm during ejaculation. The prostate gland does have several other functions including providing the power behind the ejaculation.
The prostate gland plays a vital role in male fertility and sexual activity. Whilst aiding with urination, the ability to achieve and maintain an erection is linked to the prostate gland. If the prostate gland becomes swollen it applies pressure to the urethra which makes the passing of urine difficult and also can affect the nerves responsible for erections by making them less sensitive and the ability to achieve an erection is reduced, even impossible in some circumstances.
Any discomfort or problems that you believe may be because of the prostate gland should always be referred to your doctor at the earliest opportunity.
